Unfortunately, despite your best efforts, your paper isn’t perfect. Maybe you’ve been told you’re a “good writer,” but that doesn’t mean you can’t be better. Any written assignment can be improved—perhaps your argument has weak points, or you tend to consistently use very long sentences. The Writing Place exists to help you accomplish those goals.

The Writing Place isn’t just for fixing grammar and proofreading. In fact, we try to avoid acting as editors or proofreaders. When you come in, we’ll work with you collaboratively to find those places where your paper isn’t perfect, and then together we’ll devise solutions. Writing Place tutors have been specifically trained to identify ways to improve every aspect of a written document—rhetoric, clarity, grammar, tone, style, and even citations.

We’ll also work with you at any stage of the writing process. Do you have a difficult prompt and you don’t know where to begin? A Writing Place tutor can help you put together an argument and thesis. Is the paper due at midnight and you’re putting on the finishing touches? A Writing Place appointment is a great opportunity to get feedback on your organization and transitions. Wherever you’re at, we can help.

The Writing Place is located on the second floor of Main Library in Core, but you can also book an online appointment if that’s more convenient for you. (We understand that sometimes you just want help without having to get out of bed.) To book an appointment, just visit The Writing Place website and follow the instructions.
